Reflection & Application

Exodus 1:1-7

  • Recall God’s promise to Abraham and Jacob in Genesis 15:13, 28:14, and 46:3. What can I learn about God’s faithfulness from the description of the Israelites? 

Exodus 1:8-14

  • Reflect on the Egyptian king’s plans to “deal shrewdly with” the Israelites in light of Genesis 15:13. What does this tell me about who is truly in power (cf. Psalm 2:1-2)? 

  • What was the Egyptians’ response to the multiplication of the Israelites?  In what ways is this characteristic of those who feel threatened by the spread of the will of God on earth?

  • Are there ways I may be trying to act shrewdly against God’s will?
