Bible Text: Luke 5:1-11 (ESV)

Reflection & Application

Luke 5:4-7

  • Think about the moment captured in v. 4. How does this resonate with me?

  • On what basis did Simon Peter let down the nets?

  • What did Simon Peter discover because of his obedience to Jesus’ words?

Luke 5:5-10

  • “What Peter does not realize is that admitting one’s inability and sin is the best prerequisite for service, since then one can depend on God. Peter’s confession becomes his résumé for service. Humility is the elevator to spiritual greatness.”1

  • To what extent do I identify with Peter’s confession, both in v. 5 and v. 8?

  • Compare what Peter was fishing for with what Jesus was inviting him to. What is my response to Jesus’ invitation to follow him to become a fisher of men?
